Ergo/Spin classes
Over 'winter' (April - October) we run spin classes at the Blackburn clubrooms
On Tuesday nights over the non-daylight savings part of the year, aboc runs an ergo session at the Blackburn Cycling Club clubrooms. This isn't like a spin class at a gym, we do individualised and streamed programs for the riders that attend, and we provide dinner afterwards. Running from 7pm sharp 'til 8:30pm (9ish, including dinner) the classes are a way to do intensity training on a spin trainer in a social atmosphere, supervised by an aboc coach. Typically there's four streams running each night, a sprinters stream aimed at track sprinters, which takes about 45 minutes, and three enduro streams, from an introductory C stream, intermediate B stream and very hard, high intensity A stream. You can see our programs here. We advise that you arrive at around 6:30pm to get set up and organised.
The aboc Spin classes in winter held in the Blackburn Cycling Club rooms is one my main training sessions each week during the cold, dark winter months. The intensity I get from each session is as good or better than racing Sandown Crits during summer. It's the perfect way to get quality training in after work when time is limited. I often find myself tired and lacking motivation to do ergo but in a group such as this each session I finish is like winning a race. The coaching is first class and features a gradual build up from week to week with specific sets of efforts. Each person can work to their level from juniors to elite to masters. There's always time for a few jokes, and the pasta spag bol at the end is worth coming to in its own right. In my opinion this is one of the best group ergo sessions available. - Tom Leaper.
Attendees bring their own bikes and spin trainers, aboc supplies the music, training programs and a feed afterwards.
We have a limited number of Kurt Kinetic Road Machine trainers for use by the sprint squad, which may be borrowed by arrangement only. Please do not assume that there will be a spare trainer for you to use!
The sessions cost $15 to attend which includes dinner. We do a season pass for $340 (normal cost $390) for all 26 sessions and a family discount for multiple people from a single family. Drinks are available at club prices (cans of soft drink are $2 etc). These sessions are open to any licenced rider. We request that you contact us to let us know you're coming so we can make sure we have sufficient food and know what to do for your program. Additionally you must hold some form of a current Cycling Australia licence. A Silver or platinum licence will suffice, which costs $65 for 2010. Dinner consists usually of a pasta and a meat and tomato sauce, and a vegetarian tomato sauce if we know any vegetarians are attending.
Attendance is capped at 32 riders, with preference being to Blackburn members, then aboc coached riders.
Family discount is as follows (casual only) :
$15 for the first person, $12 for the second, $10 for the third and four or more are $8 each. So for 4 people that's $45, including dinner.
